About Kihei

South Maui's Most Beloved Beach Town

Stretching along six glorious miles of South Maui coastline, Kihei is the kind of place people visit once and never stop thinking about. Sheltered from trade-wind rain by the towering slopes of Haleakalā, the community enjoys one of the most reliably sunny climates in all of Hawaii — with less than 10 inches of rainfall per year and temperatures that hover between 75°F and 88°F year-round.

Once a quiet fishing village, Kihei has grown into a vibrant, multicultural community of roughly 22,000 residents. Its long string of beaches — from Kamaʻole I, II, and III in the heart of town to the quieter coves of Keawakapu and the sacred shores of Mākena — make it one of the most beach-rich residential communities in the state. Residents can walk or bike to the water from nearly anywhere in town.

Kihei also enjoys an enviable position within South Maui. The upscale resort district of Wailea — with its world-class golf courses, five-star hotels, and luxury shopping — is just minutes down the road. Mākena and its wild, undeveloped coastline lies just beyond. In the other direction, central Maui and Kahului Airport are a comfortable 20-minute drive. Kihei sits squarely at the center of island life.
